My name is Amy Heric and I live in Portland's Deering Center neighborhood. I was an educator (high school English teacher) for many years and now work mainly from home - keeping myself busy with the duties of a mom/homeowner/human, as well as some freelance copy and editing work.
I have always loved clay, and creation, and artistic endeavors of all kinds. I'm a member of Portland Pottery where I currently glaze and fire my pieces. I have a wheel at home and hope to acquire a kiln some day. If you're ever in the neighborhood - feel free to contact me and come by - I have a basement studio in the winter and another in the garage when the weather turns warm. We can have wine and talk pots.
I was born and raised in northern Maine and much of my family still call Aroostook County home. I get to visit as often as I'd like (weather permitting) and am lucky to have roots in one of the most beautiful regions of the state.
My work is heavily influenced from living in Maine my whole life. I like to think of my pottery as objects you might find naturally formed in the landscape of the state: the rust brown of winter grasses, deep browns of wet coastal wood, spotted greens and whites of lichen, moss, and seafoam, cloudy greens and blues of mountain mist, morning dew, and island fog, and the flashes of color from winter berries, bird feathers, and meadow flowers. And of course, the yankee in me loves a good puzzle - so if you ever have the desire to commission a piece - I'll do my best to make it just right for you. Contact me at: amy@amyheric.com
